As shown in the table above, FWD Comprehensive Classic (after discounts) and Sompo Comprehensive ExcelDrive Focus (without discounts) are the cheapest car insurance plans for the assumed profile.

Comprehensive plans offer the most extensive coverage and benefits with own damage and third party damage both included for comprehensive plans. Additionally, other benefits such as personal accident, free No-Claims Discount (NCD) protector, repair warranty, loss of use benefit are also included in comprehensive plans. This is also the most commonly obtained type of car insurance and can usually be purchased for cars no older than 15 years.

Cheapest third party only plan: Sompo third party only

A third party only (TPO) plan covers for third party liabilities and can be seen as the most basic coverage for car insurance. Fulfilling the minimum legal requirement to drive on Singapore’s roads1, TPO is the car insurance with the lowest cost. However, this is so because it also offers the least coverage with no coverage given for damage to your own car and no additional benefits. Therefore while TPO may be cheap, we do not recommend a third party only car insurance.

Cheapest third party, fire and theft plan: Sompo third party, fire and theft

Similar to TPO plans, third party, fire and theft car insurance offers additional coverage for fire and/or theft incidents. With coverage given still rather basic, third party, fire and theft car insurance are usually only used for older cars. These may be cars that are ineligible for comprehensive coverage or cars that you would scrap should there be an accident.
