    An all-rounder travel insurance plan, FWD’s plan with Covid-19 add-on offers individuals an affordable option for comprehensive travel insurance coverage. This includes up to $5,000 coverage for trip cancellation and curtailment. Apart from providing coverage in the event of a Covid-19 diagnosis, FWD will also cover if you or your travelling companion is denied boarding for a public transport due to a failed temperature check or show Covid-19 symptoms and is subsequently diagnosed with Covid-19. Do take note that FWD has a 72 hours waiting period for claims related to pre-trip Covid-19 benefits such as trip cancellation and/or postponement.

  • Enhanced Covid-19 coverage only applies to TravelEasy policies purchased from 1 May 2022. Plans purchased before 1 May 2022 will not receive these enhanced Covid-19 benefits.
  • You must purchase your policy more than 3 days before the start of your journey to receive insolvency protection.
  • No hospital allowance due to Covid-19 given.
  • Post-trip medical expenses upon return to Singapore does not cover for Covid-19.

    MSIG TravelEasy also offers coverage of up to $250,000 for medical expenses incurred overseas due to Covid-19. Both single-trip and annual plans now come automatically included with Covid-19 coverage. An overseas quarantine allowance is also provided at $100 per day, for up to $1,400 if you are quarantined or isolated overseas at a government approved facility. Policy also has an automatic policy extension benefit for up to 14 days if the insured is diagnosed or in mandatory quarantine or up to 30 days if insured is hospitalised overseas due to Covid-19.

    Non-Covid-19 related coverage for MSIG TravelEasy is also comprehensive with high personal accident, medical expenses, and travel inconvenience benefits.


    #3 NTUC Income Travel

    NTUC Income (Classic, Deluxe, Preferred)

  • Covers for Covid-19 vaccine complications should you require medical treatment while overseas.
  • Overseas quarantine allowance of up to $1,400.
  • Coverage of up to $2,000 for trip cancellation and curtailment (can also claim if you or your travel companion is denied boarding for your public transport due to a failed temperature check or shown covid-19 symptoms and subsequently is diagnosed with Covid-19). A 3 day waiting period applies.
  • Covers for up to $150,000 for medical expenses incurred from Covid-19 while overseas.
  • Automatic policy extension up to 14 days if diagnosed or in mandatory quarantine due to Covid-19.
  • Comprehensive coverage for non-Covid-19 related benefits.
  • Cons

  • No hospital allowance due to Covid-19 given.
  • Post-trip medical expenses upon return to Singapore does not cover for Covid-19.
  • NTUC Income's Travel insurance comes embedded with Covid-19 coverage and includes coverage for vaccine-related side effects while overseas. Also automatically includes Covid-19 coverage for pre-existing, annual, and single-trip plans.

    With the recent policy enhancements, NTUC Income travel insurance now offers overseas quarantine allowance for $100 per day, up to a maximum of $1,400. NTUC’s single-trip travel plan, pre-existing travel plan and annual travel insurance plan will also automatically include Covid-19 coverage in their policies.

    While the trip cancellation benefit limit is not the highest at $2,000, we feel that the conditions covered are rather broad. This covers for a positive Covid-19 diagnosis, mandatory self-isolation or quarantine, or if if you or your travel companion is denied boarding due to a failed temperature check or display Covid-19 symptoms and subsequently tests positive. Policies have a 3 day waiting period for pre-trip Covid-19 benefits such as trip cancellation and/or postponement.

    NTUC's travel insurance also cover your medical expenses if you suffer from vaccine complications and have to seek medical treatment while overseas. Note that this must be a Singapore government approved vaccine and taken in Singapore within the last 30 days. NTUC Income travel insurance plans also offers comprehensive non-Covid-19 related coverage with high personal accident, medical expenses, TCM and chiropractor, and travel inconvenience benefits.


    #4 Sompo Travel (Covid-19) Insurance

    Sompo Travel (Covid-19) Insurance (Essential and Superior)


    Pros

  • Quarantine and hospitalisation allowance given if diagnosed with Covid-19 while overseas.
  • Covers for up to $200,000 for medical expenses incurred from Covid-19 while overseas.
  • Coverage of up to $4,000 for trip cancellation and curtailment. A 14 day waiting period applies.
  • Automatic policy extension up to 14 days if diagnosed or in mandatory quarantine due to Covid-19, or up to 30 days if hospitalised due to a Covid-19 infection.
  • Comprehensive coverage for non-Covid-19 related benefits.
  • Cons

  • No coverage given if you have to cancel non-refundable local activities such as tours, excursions, shows, sport events, concerts etc.
  • An excess of $100 applies in the event of claims for trip cancellation, postponement, curtailment and disruption.
  • There is a 14 day waiting period for pre-trip benefits (e.g. trip cancellation and postponement).
  • Post-trip medical expenses upon return to Singapore does not cover for Covid-19.
  • Does not cover for TCM, chiropractor expenses incurred.
  • Sompo Travel (Covid-19) Insurance offers one of the highest overseas quarantine and hospitalisation allowance in the event of a Covid-19 diagnosis. Consider this plan if these are your main concerns.

    One of the only insurers to offer both quarantine and hospitalisation while overseas, Sompo’s Travel (COVID-19) Insurance is suitable for you if you are concerned about the availability of these allowance while overseas. For a higher quarantine and hospitalisation allowance limit, opt for Sompo’s Superior plan to receive up to $100 a day, for a maximum of 14 days in the event that you are diagnosed with Covid-19 and have to be isolated or hospitalised.

    However, do note that Sompo will require a payable excess of $100 for trip cancellation, postponement, curtailment and disruption benefits. This means that you will have to pay the first $100 of any related claims. Sompo will only cover the amount after the first $100, up to your plan benefit limits.

    Sompo also offers up to $500,000 coverage for non-Covid-19 related personal accident limits, making it one of the highest offered in the market.


    #5 AIG Travel Guard

    AIG Travel Guard (Basic, Standard, Enhanced, Supreme)


    Pros

  • Up to $7,500 for trip cancellation and trip disruption due to Covid-19.
  • Quarantine allowance given if diagnosed with Covid-19 while overseas (Enhanced and Supreme plans only).
  • Covers for up to $250,000 for medical expenses incurred from Covid-19 while overseas
  • Cons

  • Covid-19 trip cancellation coverage conditions are limited and is only claimable if with a positive Covid-19 diagnosis.
  • Post-trip medical expenses upon return to Singapore does not cover for Covid-19.
  • Quarantine allowance claims will be offset against any amount AIG has paid for under travel cancellation, postponement, curtailment and/or interruption in respect of the same event.
  • AIG Travel Guard may be suitable if you are planning a costly trip and want a higher trip cancellation benefit with Supreme plans offering a benefit limit of up to $7,500.

    With a trip cancellation benefit of up to $7,500 for the Supreme plan, AIG Travel Guard may be suitable if your trip expenses are in the higher range. The quarantine allowance given for AIG Travel Enhanced and Supreme plans are also on the higher end with a benefit of $100 per day, for up to 14 consecutive days given.

    However, do note that the conditions to claim for trip cancellation is relatively limited with coverage only given if you or your immediate family tests positive for Covid-19. Coverage will not be given if you are ordered to serve mandatory isolation or are denied boarding. Additionally, the quarantine allowance claims for AIG Travel Guard will be offset against any amount AIG has paid for travel cancellation, postponement, curtailment and/or interruption in respect of the same event.


    #6 Great Eastern TravelSmart Premier

    Great Eastern TravelSmart Premier (Classic and Elite)


    Pros

  • Coverage of up to $5,000 for trip cancellation and curtailment.
  • Includes cover for pre-paid, non-refundable entertainment tickets.
  • Overseas medical coverage of up to $150,000 for Covid-19.
  • Cons

  • Covid-19 cover only for Classic and Elite plans.
  • Covid-19 extension coverage not applicable if you buy this policy after you are diagnosed with Covid-19.
  • Only covers for economy travel tickets.
  • No overseas hospitalisation or quarantine allowance.
  • Great Eastern TravelSmart Premier is a travel insurance that offers basic Covid-19 coverage.

    Providing coverage for pre-paid, non-refundable entertainment tickets, Great Eastern TravelSmart Premier is suitable for those who may have purchased multiple non-refundable overseas attraction tickets. With the Elite plan offering coverage of up to $5,000 for trip cancellation and disruption, this makes it suitable for individuals who are looking to travel for a specific entertainment event. However, note that Great Eastern’s TravelSmart Premier only covers for economy class travel tickets and therefore will not be suitable for individuals who are looking to travel by business or first class.
