Personal accident insurance covers you for...

A personal accident (PA) plan provides coverage against accidents and accidental deaths. While coverage may differ between plans, most PA plans also covers for specified infectious diseases such as Hand, Food and Mouth Disease (HFMD), Dengue fever and also food poisoning and insect bites. Coverage for inpatient and outpatient medical expenses are also included in personal accident plans in the event of an accident.

Who needs personal accident insurance?

You may consider getting a personal accident insurance if you wish to complement your existing health or life insurance coverage.

Alternatively, individuals who are unable to get traditional life insurance but still want some coverage may also wish to consider personal accident plans. This is because while your pre-existing medical conditions may not allow you to get life insurance, a personal accident plan does not require any medical underwriting. This means that you can get coverage with personal accident plans even if you have pre-existing conditions.

Lastly, parents with young children may also wish to consider getting a personal accident insurance for your child. This is because young children are more susceptible to accidents and illnesses such as Hand Food and Mouth Disease (HFMD) which is common among young children and infants due to its contagious nature. While HFMD is usually not serious, the recovery period may still take up to 10 days.1 A PA plan can thus provide parents assurance knowing that they would be able to make a claim for their child’s treatment costs that may not be claimable from MediShield.
