Why International Health plans?

The portability of International Health plans allows you to bring your plan along to anywhere in the world. This may be useful if you are looking to move to another country in future or if you are a foreigner who may one day move home.

Furthermore, International Health plans are highly customisable. This allows you the flexibility to choose your desired coverage levels and annual coverage limits thus ensuring that you are only paying for coverage that you need.

But I already have MediShield...

MediShield Life and Integrated Shield Plans only provide coverage in Singapore. International Health plans however allows coverage to be chosen for a particular country or region thus allowing you to receive comprehensive medical coverage at anywhere in the world.

Additionally, MediShield Life and Integrated Shield plans only provide coverage for hospitalisation and selective treatments. However, International Health plans allow you to receive outpatient, dental and maternity coverage. Therefore, an international health plan may be suitable should you travel frequently and wish to enhance your existing health coverage.

How is this different from travel insurance?

Travel insurance provides comprehensive coverage against travel inconveniences such as baggage or flight delays, terrorism cover, loss of personal belongings and more. This is on top of the medical coverage also offered in travel insurance.

While International Health plans do offer some travel benefits, it is mainly focused on providing worldwide health-related coverage. This includes outpatient treatment, hospitalisation, pregnancy and dental benefits. International Health plans also offer medical benefits such as health screenings, vaccinations and optical that are typically not included in travel insurance.
